I. Preheating: Let the machine "warm up" before starting work
1、After starting, run the machine at medium speed for 3-5 minutes to circulate the engine oil.
2、Operate the bucket and boom for 5 minutes to warm the hydraulic oil.
3、Lift the machine body and idle the left and right tracks for 1-2 minutes each to preheat the travel motor.
4、When the water temperature is above 60℃ and the hydraulic oil temperature is above 30℃, start formal operation. This can reduce premature wear of pumps and valves by more than 70%.
II. Fuel System: Choose the Right Fuel and Change the Filter Frequently
1、Diesel freezing point should be 7–10°C lower than the local minimum temperature;
2、Fill the fuel tank before the end of each workday to reduce water vapor condensation and freezing.
3、Replace the diesel filter every 200 hours or monthly to prevent wax buildup and clogging.
III. Lubrication System: Use "Winter-grade" engine oil and grease.
1、Switch to 0W-30/5W-30 engine oil, which has good low-temperature fluidity; replace the oil filter at the same time.
2、If the #3 lithium-based grease is too thick, switch to #2 or #1 low-temperature grease; re-grease the boom, stick, slewing bearing, and track tensioner cylinder before each workday.
3、Check for oil leaks; seals harden easily at low temperatures, replace any leaks immediately.
IV. Cooling System: Correct Antifreeze is Key
1、Use -37℃ 50/50 premixed antifreeze, with a freezing point at least 10℃ lower than the local minimum temperature; do not dilute directly with water.
2、Before replacement, inspect the inside of the radiator with an endoscope. If flocculent sediment or rust is found, clean it before refilling.
3、After refilling, idle until the thermostat opens, bleed air from the bleed screw, and then add antifreeze to the MAX line to ensure efficient circulation.
V. Hydraulic System: Most Vulnerable at Low Temperatures
1、Switch to 32# low-temperature anti-wear hydraulic oil (or manufacturer's recommended grade) to reduce pump cavitation and valve jamming.
2、Visually inspect the machine daily for oil leaks, paying particular attention to the pump, valve block, and cylinder rod seals; rubber seals shrink at low temperatures, making them most prone to leaks.
3、If the machine is shut down for more than 3 days, a custom-made simple insulation sleeve can be used to wrap the oil tank to prevent the oil from becoming too viscous.
VI. Electrical System: Batteries are sensitive to cold; insulation and charging are necessary.
1、Low temperatures can reduce battery capacity by 30-50%. After work, remove the battery and store it indoors at a temperature above 5°C. If removal is not possible, wrap it with an insulating blanket.
2、Check the electrolyte level weekly. If it falls below the lower limit, add distilled water, but this must be done before daytime work to prevent freezing at night.
3、Starter carbon brushes and relay contacts are prone to brittleness and oxidation due to low temperatures. Perform a low-load start monthly to allow current circulation and deoxidize.
VII. Tracks and Underframe: "Easily Damaged" in Ice and Snow
1、Maintain a 2-3 cm sag in rubber track tension; low temperatures cause rubber to shrink, and excessive tightness will accelerate track tooth breakage.
2、Clean up ice and mud from between tracks promptly after work to prevent them from freezing into "concrete" the next day, causing uneven wear and tooth skipping.
3、Avoid sharp turns when walking on snow to reduce track shear force; install rubber pads or track anti-skid chains if necessary.
VIII.Long-Term Storage:
1、Retract the fuel cylinder piston rod and apply a thin layer of grease to exposed parts to prevent rust.
2、Set the fuel control lever to the idle position, return all control levers to the neutral position, and turn off the main power switch or disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
3、Start the engine every two weeks, idling for 10 minutes + performing 5 cycles of each operation to allow the oil film to re-cover the friction surfaces and maintain battery charge.
